What is it?Bookies like Paddy Power and Boyles Sports offer an alternative to buying an Irish Lottery ticket. Similar to Keno lottery games from casinos in the U. S, you can pick a certain number of balls, and win a prize if all your balls come up. Note: ALL your balls must come up
An example probably helps illustrate this better. You could pick 3 balls, and place a bet with the bookies on these 3 numbers coming up (either including or excluding the Bonus ball). If all 3 come up, you win
If 2 come up, you do not win anything. Why Do It?So why would you want to place a bet with the bookies instead of buying a National Lottery Lotto ticket? The answer is, because you get much "fairer" odds. Betting on the Lotto in the bookies makes more mathematical sense than buying an actual Lotto ticket - the odds you are getting in the bookies are "fairer" than those provided by the National Lottery. We are defining "fairness" in terms of the ratio of the odds offered to you on any given bet, compared to what the actual odds of winning it are
An example would suit best again. If you buy a Lottery ticket which you now pay €2 for, and imagine you match 5 numbers plus the bonus. You win €100,000 for your €2 stake, meaning you got odds of 50,000 / 1 on that bet. That means the fairness of your bet was a mere 2.8%, as based on odds you should get €3,579,190. In the bookies however, picking for example one number from 6, pays you odds of 6/1
The actual odds are 7.83 to one, meaning the "fairness" is 76%. The other main reason you would want to bet with the bookies is that the bookies offer much better odds than the National Lottery's equivalent game called Lotto 5-4-3-2-1, but only for some choices, as detailed below. Lotto Bookies Odds The tables below shows the odds you can get on each site for Irish Lotto betting
You can bet in a 6 Number Game, which excludes the Bonus Ball, or the 7 Number Game which includes it. The bookies have much better odds than the National Lottery's Lotto 5-4-3-2-1 game, when you pick 2, 3 or 4 balls as your bet. If you pick 1 or 5 balls, the odds are the same, as you can see in the tables below. Bookies Odds 6 Ball Game Bookies Matched Numbers Odds 5 125,000/1 4 * 7,500/1 3 * 625/1 2 * 60/1 1 6/1 7 Ball Game Bookies Matched Numbers Odds 5 40,000/1 4 * 3,800/1 3 * 330/1 2 * 40/1 1 5/1 * indicates better odds than in the National Lottery table below National Lottery 5-4-3-2-1 Odds 6 Ball Game 5-4-3-2-1 Matched Numbers Odds 5 125,000/1 4 6,000/1 3 550/1 2 45/1 1 6/1 7 Ball Game 5-4-3-2-1 Matched Numbers Odds 5 40,000/1 4 3,000/1 3 275/1 2 32/1 1 5/1 The main disadvantage with Paddy Power is that the minimum stake you can place is 50c per line
A Bonus Ball is also drawn from the remaining 41 numbers, creating a total of eight prize tiers. Irish Lotto tickets are available from authorised retailers in Ireland, where you can play a minimum of two lines for €4, costing €2 each. Alternatively, numbers can be picked online from anywhere in the world
Regardless of the method you choose to enjoy the game, you can either select the numbers yourself or opt for a random Quick Pick. However, if you play through a retailer it is recommended that you sign the back of any tickets you buy and keep them safe, as entries need to be presented before you can be paid. All Irish Lotto prizes must be claimed within 90 days of the relevant draw, or they will be retained to promote the National Lottery and increase funds raised for good causes. Irish players must be at least 18 to take part in draws
On top of the main Lotto game, players can also opt to take part in the Lotto Plus 1, Lotto Plus 2 and Lotto Plus Raffle draws for an additional €1 per line. This takes the total minimum fee for playing Lotto with Plus to €6. Lotto Plus draws take place alongside the Lotto draw each Wednesday and Saturday and offer players additional jackpots to play for as well as a range of smaller prizes. Did you know that Irish Lotto players haven’t always picked six numbers from 47? You can read a bit more about the history of the main Lotto game here.. If you like playing the Irish Lotto like me then why not try a few perms
We all know what monster odds we get for a treble or a four-timer and I use a particular strategy or system when playing the lotto. However the odds are so big because you have to pick 3 numbers and get them all right in order to get your rewards. Many people have said that the National Lotto is rubbish compared to the Irish Lotto, but they don't seem to realise that you can pick 6 numbers for only 1 pound and win with either 3, 4, 5, 5, and the bonus or all 6
So despite many people thinking that the National Lotto odds are rubbish let's have a further look at this. You pick your 6 numbers for your £1 and they are split into the following -20 x Trebles 15 x Fourfolds 6 x Fivefolds 6 x Fivefold's & Bonus Ball 1 X Sixfold This is a total of 48 bets for your £1, compared to just 1 bet for your £1 on the Irish Lotto. The Irish Lottery can be played at many bookmakers including:Say you pick 3 numbers on the Irish Lotto and do the 6 number draw
If they all come out you will win between £575 & £600 depending on which bookie you use, that's great if you are lucky enough to have your numbers drawn out. If you're like me and you often get 2 numbers and then end up winning nothing, maybe it's time for a change. For less odds you can increase your chances of winning by using the Bonus Ball, so instead of having to pick 3 numbers from the 6 main numbers drawn you actually pick from 7, the main numbers and the Bonus Ball, you often win around £300 for predicting 3 from 7. How about stretching the perms a bit further and picking 4 numbers and crossing them for any 3 and all 4 Jumbo Bucks Lotto.
This is 5 bets, 4 x trebles, and a fourfold, If like me you do all 3 draws every Saturday & Wednesday then this can run quite expensive so i would normally perm these for just 20p's and this would cost just £1 per draw, a total of £6 per week. If I am lucky enough to get 3 numbers drawn I would win £60 as i always include the bonus ball and if I was lucky enough to get all 4 drawn then i would win over £800 for my £1. If I didn't include the bonus ball my returns for 3 numbers would be around £120 and for all 4 numbers, it would be around £1,800
I normally pick the same 4 numbers every draw - 11, 22, 33 & 44, and on the odd occasion i would do another bet with the numbers 10, 20, 30 & 40 and still only for 20p bets. This week only (Saturday 29th December) i have decided to do a different perm and have decided to pick all 8 numbers and perm them for any 4 and any 5 with the bonus ball included. The 8 numbers picked work out as -70 x Fourfolds 56 x Fivefolds Again, using the 7 number draw i have done the Fourfolds for 2p unit stakes and the Fivefolds for 1p unit stakes, a total of just £1.96 per draw and covering all 3 draws. If I am lucky enough to get 4 numbers drawn from the 7 drawn I will win £60. I just thought I would give it a go and try something new
